How to change the General Settings in PC Health Advisor

There are several settings that you can configure to provide automatic functionality

To view the General settings:

From the Main window, click the Settings tab, and click the General Settings button.

Recommendations and Notes:

The following are recommendations and notes related to each of the settings.

1. Launch application when Windows starts.
This is useful if you plan on using the program frequently or in situations where launching your system is problematic and you want to scan and fix items immediately.

2. Automatically start scan when application starts.
An automatic scan when you launch can save you a step so as to detect items immediately. We recommend using this once you have selected the registry and privacy scan settings of your choice.

3. Create restore point before fixing items.
This option is on by default. We recommend having this enabled so that you can restore your system to a previous state should your computer not be functioning as expected.

The system restore point option is available if you are using Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, or XP.

4. Automatically start fixing items after scan.
This option is best used after you have a good understanding of the program and have customized the settings. It is also useful when used in conjunction with scheduled scans.

5. Display available Exit actions when clicking the Close "X" button.
This option is on by default. It is useful if you want to confirm your intention of exiting the program or minimizing it to the system tray.

6. Minimize to the system tray instead of exiting.
When General Setting 5 is checked, the option to minimize to the system tray is disabled (grayed out). You can clear General Setting 5 and then check this option to minimize to the system tray. In this instance the Main window is closed, the program remains running in the background, and the program icon remains available in the system tray.

7. Show Product News when application starts.
Product News is primarily used to notify you of relevant information such as product and database updates including Privacy whitelist updates, active processes updates, malware weekly updates, and feature updates. For example, each time the malware database is updated on the PC Health Advisor server, a message is displayed to you including a brief breakdown including the items that were added. This option is on by default.

8. Notify me when malware processes are detected.
Applications load processes when you start your system. Processes are instances of a software program running on a system. If PC Health Advisor detects any processes that have been generated from malware at startup or whenever the process list is refreshed, you will receive a notification. A popup message is displayed from the system tray and you can click it to initiate a scan. By doing so you will be able to remove the malware. By default this option is enabled.

9. Notify me when the drive is fragmented more than _ %.
You will receive notification if the fragmentation analysis indicates a drive fragmentation in excess of the level that is selected. For example, after performing a disk defrag analysis the results are stored. When you next start the application (and weekly thereafter) a notice will appear if the level is in excess of the setting specified. You can click on the message to be taken directly to the Defrag page. With this setting, you can adjust the level by typing a number in the box provided. The default is 3%.

The lower the percentage, the more notifications you will receive. However, keep in mind, your system could display problematic symptoms if the drive is overly fragmented.

10. Notify me when attempting to open unknown file types.
You will receive notification when attempting to open a file that does not have an associated application. You have the option of using PC Health Advisor to search for software to handle this file type or to use Windows to manage it. This option is on by default.
