How do I use the Process Manager in RegCure Pro?

Using the Process Manager you can review the processes that are running on your system and you can check the performance of your system. After diagnosing your system, you can terminate unwanted processes to speed up your computer. You can optimize the processes or choose to have processes ignored for upcoming scans.

To view the Process Manager page:

From the left pane of the program window, click the Tools tab, and click the Process Manager Button.
Processes

From the Processes tab, you can see the list of processes that are currently running on your system. The task of identifying particular processes is simplified using the RegCure Pro Process symbols. The symbols and descriptions are as follows:
 
 

Name: Description:
System Operating system processes that are identified as such by the RegCure Pro database.
User Installed Processes run by applications that have been legitimately installed on your system and are identified as such by the RegCure Pro database.
Other Other processes whereby RegCure Pro cannot detect the installation source; these are items not found in the RegCure Pro database.
Unwanted Processes the RegCure Pro database detects as being unwanted as they are associated with a legitimate application but are specified as unwanted as you would not want to run them all the time. Examples of these are system tray items or background services that do not have a useful purpose.
Malware Processes the RegCure Pro malware database detects as malware and require termination. We recommend you run a scan to remove any malware on your system.
 
RegCure Pro offers several methods of gaining more information about how your system is performing as a whole and what you can detect from individual processes.

Diagnosing Overall Performance

You can get an idea of how you system is performing so as to view CPU, Memory, and PageFile usage.
To get overall system performance information:
  • From the Process Manager page, select the Performance tab.
Diagnosing a Process

In the case where your computer is suffering from poor overall performance, you can inspect individual processes to determine if a particular one is using up too many resources.

To diagnosis a process in the list:
  • From the Process Manager page, select the Processes tab, and select one of the processes in the list.
The text box to the left includes useful information about the process.
 
Process Item: Description:
ProcessID The uniquely assigned number used by the operating system to identify a process.
Company The manufacturer of the application associated with the process.
Priority The operating system assigns a priority level to each process from 0 (low) to 31 (high) so as to allocate time to each.
Handles Handles are like a token that are used by the program to access computer resources.
Threads Threads are parts of the program that can act independently so that other tasks can occur simultaneously as in the case of multi-threading.
 
The box to the right includes the CPU usage for that process. In the example above, we can see that while this program was running an anti-malware scan, it was operating at below 25% usage.

Get additional process information by doing one of the following:
  • Right-click a process and select Properties. You can then review property information including the Type of file, Description, Version, Company name, and whether it has a digital signature.
  • Right-click a process and select Open Folder to locate the application that is running the process.
If there are items you are unsure about terminating, we recommend you look for information about them online. Quite often there are user forums and manufacturer sites that give relevant descriptions and recommendations.
 
  If you are terminating processes due to CPU and memory usage issues, try examining the system performance before and after you terminate a process.

Terminate a Process

There are a few methods available to terminate a process.
 
  Terminating some processes can lead to unexpected results. Data that has not been saved can be lost and disabling system processes can lead to incorrect functioning of system components. Please ensure that your Restore Point setting is enabled. See General Settings for more information.

To end a process:
  1. Right-click a process and select End Process, or select a process from the list and click the End Process button.
  2. In the confirmation dialog, click the End Process button.
Optimize Processes

You can optimize all the processes that are listed as unwanted or as malware.

To optimize all unwanted and malware processes:
  1. Click the Optimize All button.
  2. Click End Processes in the confirmation dialog.
  The optimize procedure does not clean or remove malware from your computer, it stops a process from running. The process could start again after some time has passed or after the computer is rebooted. For the malware to be removed completely, a scan and clean needs to be performed.

Ignore a Process

You can ignore a process so that it is not detected in upcoming scans.

To ignore a process:
  1. Select a process from the list.
  2. Click the Ignore button.
  3. Click Yes in the confirmation dialog.

The item remains in the Processes list but is now displayed with gray text. You can restore the item by going to the Ignore Settings page.
